CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – The University of Tennessee Volunteer baseball team has been one of the most consistent clubs during the 2022 season. Tennessee is ranked No. 1 in the nation with a record of 46-7, and getting there has been a team effort from every player that makes up the roster.

This includes Clarksville native and Rossview High alumni Christian Scott. Scott has been one of the active players on the roster. He has played in 43 out of the 53 games up to this point in the season, which is a career high.

Scott began his high school career at Northeast before transferring to Rossview during his senior year. According to the University of Tennessee, Scott batted .460 and scored 65 runs during the 2018 season. He helped lead the Hawks to a state championship title and earned All-State honors.

“The Clarksville community has showed me their constant support throughout my journey,” said Scott. “Every time I visit home, I truly feel the love around me, whether I am around former coaches, family, friends or peers. Clarksville is a big community, and it has been an awesome experience to be a part of.”

Since joining the program, Scott has made his biggest contribution to the team as an efficient fielder. He has the ability to play all three positions in the outfield. Scott has a perfect fielding percentage throughout his collegiate career and has made a number of acrobatic plays. This includes a game-ending, over-the-wall catch against Florida in April.

Scott has struggled to consistently hit during the 2022 season. According to UT, he has a batting average of .185. However, Scott has found other ways to get on base. He collected 15 walks and four hits by pitches. Anytime he finds his way on base, he makes opponents pay, too. Scott is ranked second on the team with eight stolen bases.

Prior to this season, Scott had always been an above average hitter when given the chance. He never batted under .286 during his previous three years on the team. Also, Scott recently showcased his ability to drive the ball with a career high in home runs. He has totaled four home runs during this year.

The NCAA tournament is right around the corner, and the Volunteers are predicted to get the No. 1 overall seed. Tennessee is scheduled to face Mississippi State in a three-game series before the SEC tournament kicks off.

“Coming off a successful season last year, we had to find our identity for this year’s team early on,” said Scott. “This mindset has taken us a long way this season, and we have found ways to block out any additional noise. We’ve focused in on our team as a whole, and emphasized being a good teammate. We have a lot of new players on the team this season, so the upperclassmen had to show them what this tradition is all about. All of this has played a part in our success.”

Scott has at least one year of eligibility left, and he plans to take advantage of it. He is on pace to graduate from Tennessee in December. Scott is open to the idea of being selected in the 2022 MLB Draft, and stated that is the dream for him. However, if he is not drafted, expect Scott to continuously make plays for the Tennessee baseball program in 2023.
