The Madisonville-North Hopkins Lady Maroons flexed their muscles in the 7th-District championship on Tuesday, driving in five runs on a pair of home runs to capture a ninth-straight title with an 8-4 victory over Caldwell County.

The Lady Maroons win their fifth in a row to improve to 24-5 overall and will be gunning to avenge a title-game loss to Henderson County when the 2nd-Region tournament begins next week.

Madisonville took the lead in its first at-bat when Brenna Sherman tripled to drive in a run, followed by RBI doubles for Amber Osborne and Chloe Young.

Neither team had a baserunner over the next two innings until Brylee Butts led off the Caldwell 4th with a single.  A pair of walks loaded the bases with two outs, but Madisonville pitcher Paige Patterson got a strikeout to end the inning.

With the Lady Maroons leading 3-0 in the bottom of the 4th, Kaydence Seargent doubled the advantage with a three-run shot way over the left-field fence.

However, the Lady Tigers clawed their way back into the game with four runs in the 5th.  After again loading the bases, Alicia Stanley drew a walk to get Caldwell on the board.  Adley Lewis followed with a two-out double to clear the bases and cut the deficit to two runs.

However, that would be all the offense for the Lady Tigers.  Patterson gave way to Mackenzie Stoltz in the circle after four and two-thirds.  She allowed four earned runs on only two hits with eight strikeouts, but also issued seven walks to the Lady Tigers.

Stoltz shut Caldwell down the rest of the way, allowing a single hit with a walk and striking out five of the nine batters she faced.

Madisonville capped the scoring on Sherman’s two-run homer to center in the 5th.  She and Seargent both drove in three runs, and Patterson, Stoltz, and Amber Osborne each had two hits.

Illysa Stallins took the loss for Caldwell, allowing eight earned runs on 13 hits with a strikeout in six innings.

The loss is Caldwell County’s fifth-consecutive to Madisonville in the district-title game, leaving the Lady Tigers at 15-12 overall.  They last advanced in the 2nd-Region tournament when they were runners-up in 2018.
