The New York Giants are making some major roster changes with a focus on defense.

Wednesday, the team announced that they had signed four newcomers, including defensive end Jalyn Holmes, safety Henry Black, and cornerbacks Maurice Canady and Khalil Dorsey.

Canady and Dorsey use to play for new Giants defensive coordinator Wink Martindale when he coached for the Baltimore Ravens. Holmes played defense last year in New Orleans. Before that, he spent three years with the Minnesota Vikings.

Black played for the Green Bay Packers for 2 seasons. Last year he had 25 tackles, 18 of which were solo. They join rookie edge rusher Kayvon Thibodeaux, who was drafted in the first round by the team in this year’s draft.

The Giant’s defense last season was ranked in the middle of the pack at 19th overall, giving up an average of 249 yards per game. They are hoping that Martindale can improve those numbers.

Martindale is one of the top defensive minds in the league but was surprisingly fired by the Ravens despite their successes on that side of the ball. However, he wanted more job opportunities and a fresh start while the Ravens also wanted a fresh start on the defensive side of the ball.

It will be interesting to see if these changes and the arrival of Martindale will make a huge difference this season for the Giants.
