I think she’s great but as you pointed out, the writing definitely needs to step up when it comes to a character like Janine.
It’s just boring how stupid other characters are written when they’re around her, even Shirley seems to have started trusting her and taken her side despite the fact she’s known Linda for years and knows that she isn’t a bad person when she’s sober.
Still so many unanswered questions of what Janine got up too between March 2014 and September 2021.
TPTB don't care about her character it's why they undid her development from 2010-2013 over the last few months, what they've done to Janine is criminal

Paying off Linda by fleecing her daughter is a genius move and it leaves Linda looking worse than ever
Nice to see her up to her old tricks. But it is not a very well thought through scam that should be rumbled fairly soon. She has sealed her own fate with Mick now. He will blow his top when he finds out what she has done to his beloved daughter.
It won't take Linda long to join the dots of Janine paying her 50k on the same day Nancy and Zack were conned out of that amount.
Honestly if you compared today's Janine with earlier day Janine, it's a day and night difference because of how poor the writing and storylines are now (pretty much explains why most EE fans love watching classic episodes because of how it was well-written and presented it has been in the past), they need to really improve in that department again and it will make not only Janine but all the characters much more watchable and enjoyable regardless of them being a hatable character or not.
Not a fan of the character. But her running around desperate to be the centre of Mick's world is rather pathetic and disrespectful to Janine's iconic character. I don't believe she's got a long con on either. I genuinely believe she loves him. It's doing my head in how she's treating Scarlett like an afterthought. Part of me hopes Janine leaves with Mick. A little off-topic but still relevant why are the papers saying Kellie is leaving when she isn't?
