KJAS in Jasper, TX, reports that a suspect is in custody following a manhunt that began early this morning, Wednesday, May 18, 2022, in connection with a brutal murder in the north end of Jasper County.
According to the report, Jasper County Sheriff Mitchell Newman said shortly after incident was reported, officers who arrived at the scene of a home on Circle Drive in the Lake Rayburn Area where they obtained information about the death of the elderly woman and also her alleged killer.
Newman said that officers immediately began to search the area for the suspect and also called on Sheriff Sam Craft of the Vernon Parish Sheriff’s Department in Leesville to bring dogs and others officers to the scene to assist. Shortly after 6:00, Sheriff Newman said officers located the suspect and took him into custody near the intersection of Farm to Market Road 1007 and Highway 96.
The suspect was identified as Ontario Brooks, a man said to be from the local area. The name of the victim, the motive for the crime or other details have not been released at this time as the investigation into the incident is continuing.
