Boone Dam Remediation Project that has lasted 7 years draws to a close

KINGSPORT, Tenn. (WCYB) —
The 7-year Boone Dam Remediation Project is coming to a close, officials said.

A reopening of the public recreation area is set for May 25 at 3 p.m. at 320 Boone Dam Road in Kingsport.
A sinkhole was discovered in 2014, causing major concerns that the dam would fail. The Tennessee Valley Authority lowered the lake levels, in an effort to fix the sinkhole. The TVA has been constructing a floodwall and restoring the crest of the earthen dam.
