As gas prices increase across the country, Athens-Clarke average above $4 per gallon

Prices for diesel gas in Georgia hit a record on Wednesday, with the average price per gallon being $5.25, according to AAA.

As of Wednesday, May 18, the average cost for a gallon of regular unleaded gas in Georgia was $4.11, according to AAA. The price is up more than 40 cents from a month ago. Across the United States, the average price of a gallon of gas was $4.57 as of Wednesday.

In the Athens area, Barrow County had the highest gas average at $4.11 on Wednesday, and Oconee County had the cheapest gas price average at $4.07, according to AAA. The average price for a gallon of unleaded gas in Clarke County is $4.09 and the average price for a gallon of diesel gas is $5.21.

The record in Clarke County was set on March 14 when the average hit $4.30.
