Two Onondaga County men have been charged with reckless driving after one rear-ended the other, leading to a chase that ultimately caused an SUV to crash into a house
Officers say the incident began near the intersection of Thompson Road and Exeter Street where it was reported that a gray car, driven by 28-year-old Anthony Wright of Syracuse, rear-ended a white car driven by 68-year-old Richard Shepard of Minoa.
The two got out of their cars and had a short exchange before Wright left the scene.
Officers say Shepard chased after Wright in his car in an effort to stop him.
At this point, the police had not yet been called.
Both drivers continued southbound on Thompson Road, then northbound on James Street into East Syracuse.
Officers say the drivers reached the intersections of E. Irving Street and Hartwell Avenue, when Wright, driving the gray car, failed to stop at a stop sign.
Wright collided with a black SUV that was traveling northbound on Hartwell Avenue.
The collision caused the SUV to crash into a house on the 500 Block of Hartwell Avenue.
Officers say the driver of the SUV had to be extracted from his vehicle and was then transported to a local hospital with serious injuries to his lower body and head.
Wright sustained minor injuries to his face, and Shepard was not injured.
Wright was also transported to a local hospital for his injuries and was charged with driving while intoxicated, reckless driving, and other traffic violations.
Shepard was also charged with reckless driving.
The incident is still under investigation and DeWitt Police are asking anyone with information to contact the DeWitt Police Department at 315-449-3640.
