SKOKIE, Ill. (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Skokie police are providing new information about a shooting over the weekend that left a nine-year old boy dead and his younger brother wounded.

Skokie Police Sgt. John Oakley said investigators do not believe nine-year old Jeremiah Ellis and his five-year old brother were the targets, but that someone in the apartment they were in was.

Shots came from outside the apartment building in the 4700 block of Main Street early Saturday. Officials said the nine-year old was shot several times and died. His younger brother suffered a graze wound.

Sgt. Oakley said the family has not been cooperating with police and has been hard to contact.

He said detectives are going over video of the area around Main Street and Skokie Boulevard in the hopes of finding new clues. Police are also asking anyone who may have information to call them.

The boys lived in Chicago and had been visiting relatives. Oakley said the boys were Chicago Public School students.
