Ken Screven, who reported for decades at WRGB/CBS6, has passed away.
The news was posted on social media by family.
As a Black man on TV in Albany in the early 70's, Ken was a trailblazer with a conscience. He even profiled his own family history in the deep south where his great grandfather was a slave.
In 2020 he was honored by the Albany Damien Center with it's 2020 Hero Award honoree, for his commitment to educating and advocating for the community.
He retired from WRGB back in 2011. In retirement, through his popular Albany Times Union blog, active social media following and personal appearances, Screven used his voice to speak intelligently to the issues impacting all of us and to advocate for social change.
Ken is a 2009 Citizen Action Jim Perry Progressive Leadership Award recipient and the In Our Own Voices 2018 Community Advocate honoree.

We are saddened today to learn of Ken Screven’s passing. Mr. Screven was one of the most influential local journalists of our time, and we are grateful that he was a part of the WRGB CBS 6 News family for so many years. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Ken’s family and friends.
