LFR Crews Find Smoldering Fire In Wall Of North Lincoln House

By Tom Stanton May 18, 2022 | 1:39 PM

Lincoln Firefighters found a fire smoldering in the walls of a home near 9th and Superior early Tuesday afternoon.   LFR’S Nancy Crist says the residents reported they had a stovetop fire earlier in the day and thought it was completely extinguished.

“Fire crews got to the kitchen and felt there was heat and there was a small black spot on the ceiling,” Crist says.  “They used their thermal imaging cameras behind the stove and found a register of 385 degrees.”

Crist says firefighters opened up the wall and found the floor joists had been damaged by the heat buildup.  Two of them sustained significant damage.  Damage is estimated at $5,000.  Crist says always call 911 even if you think the fire is out.  They will come out and check to make sure everything is o.k.
