Doja Cat Says She Wasn't Joking When She Said She Wanted To Quit Music

"It wasn't a joke, not to me at the time."

Doja Cat says she was serious about wanting to quit music earlier this year — at least she was in the moment.

In March, Doja posted a series of tweets about retiring from music after receiving some particularly harsh messages from fans.

It all started when she was supposed to play Asunciónico Festival in Paraguay but it got canceled because of intense flooding. When she didn't post about the cancelation online and seemingly didn't interact with fans outside of her hotel in the middle of the storm, some people on Twitter went off.

Fans began tweeting that she didn't care about the people of Paraguay and even accused her of "losing her humility" — which really upset Doja.

"I don’t give a fuck anymore, I fucking quit, I can’t wait to fucking disappear and I don’t need you to believe in me anymore. Everything is dead to me, music is dead, and I’m a fucking fool for ever thinking I was made for this — this is a fucking nightmare, unfollow me," Doja wrote.

Not long after, she followed up saying, "This shit ain’t for me so I’m out. Y’all take care."

Fans quickly became concerned about the future of her career, especially since just months earlier, Doja had opened up about the immense pressure of her intense schedule and obligations.

After taking a brief break from social media, Doja returned to the spotlight — but she now says her intention to quit music was real.

"It wasn't a joke, not to me at the time," she told Live From E!

She added that she decided to return "because I made music and I want to make music again," which she hasn't been able to do in a while because of her many obligations.

"It's like, how am I supposed to do that when I'm doing a bunch of other things? I'm getting a break and that break is gonna be me making music — which is funny," Doja explained.

At the end of the day, she says, "It's like, 'I want to stop music,' but I don't. I wanna keep doing music."

Fingers crossed Doja's break to make music is exactly what she needs!
