Texans push top ranked Pirates to limit

Just as the Wimberley baseball team has done all season, the Texans were not going down without a fight regardless of who they played this season.

That also meant playing in the No. 1 ranked team in all of 4A in the Area Round of the playoffs in an elimination game Saturday afternoon.

As the Sinton Pirates found out, it was going to take a lot more to put away the Texans.

The Pirates needed some late game magic as Wimberley fell to Sinton in a thrilling game. The Texans lost 9-8 in game two of the best of three series after losing game one 13-1.

To put over how impressive their game against Sinton was despite the loss, the Texans eight runs was the most the Pirates had given up since their 15-7 loss to Tuloso-Midway back in March.

For the senior class of 2022, the seniors were able to bring home two Bi-District Championship trophies in the past two years including a thrilling Bi-District win last week, which saw the Texans avoid elimination with a walkoff Grand Slam.

The Texans started off hot as Wimberley scored the first run of the game with a RBI double by Dylan Kincaid to go up 1-0.

After moving to third base, Kincaid scored on a Sinton error to extend the lead at 2-0.

A RBI double by Ruger Riojas scored another run before the Texans’ Will Norris scored on a passed ball as Wimberley took a 4-0 lead.

The Pirates came back however in the first inning as a three-run home run closed the gap as Sinton tralied 4-3.

After a scoreless second inning, Wimberley extended the lead as a Riojas sac fly scored Ethan Lancaster to put the Texans up at 5-3.

A fielder’s choice allowed another run to score as Wimberley went into the bottom of the third inning up 6-3.

Two home runs by Sinton in the third in ning allowed the Pirates as they cut the lead down to 6-5.

The Texans responded with a home run of their own as Josh Prado smacked the ball over the left field fence to tack on another run for the Texans to go up 7-5.

Sinton then tied the game up in the bottom of the fifth inning as another home run tied the game up at 7-7, but the Texans held firm by converting the double play to end the inning.

As the two teams went scoreless in the sixth inning, it all came down to the decisive seventh inning.

With runners on third and second, Zach Patek hit the sac fly to score Norris as the Texans took the lead at 8-7.

After getting out of the inning, the Pirates need two more scores to end the game.

A one-out RBI triple tied the game for the Pirates before Sinton sealed the game with a walk off RBI single to escape the Texans with a 9-8 win.
