RICHMOND, Ky. – Eastern Kentucky's football team will compete in the ASUN-WAC Challenge for a second consecutive season. The ASUN Conference and the Western Athletic Conference announced a renewal of the football alliance today.

The partnership will feature all 10 FCS playoff eligible teams in the two conferences. The ASUN five include Eastern Kentucky, Austin Peay, Central Arkansas, Kennesaw State, and North Alabama, while the WAC five are Abilene Christian, Lamar, Stephen F. Austin, Southern Utah, and University of the Incarnate Word. EKU will host Southern Utah on Oct. 1.

Both conferences had reached the six-team automatic qualifier threshold prior to the announcement that Jacksonville State (ASUN) and Sam Houston (WAC) would be transitioning to the FBS level and joining Conference USA, becoming ineligible for the FCS playoffs in 2022.

After winning both of its games against ASUN competition last season, EKU will play its full five-game ASUN schedule in 2022. One of the two conference champions will earn the ASUN-WAC automatic berth to the FCS playoffs. Final policy to govern the automatic qualifier will be determined in the coming weeks.
