Charges filed in Columbia daycare bomb threat

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

Boone County prosecutors have filed charges in a bomb threat to a Columbia daycare center.

The documents laying out the accusations against Alexzander S. Green don't include the name of the daycare but mention the evacuation of scores of children and adults from the building after a bomb threat was called in on Tuesday.

The time of the call matches up with a report of a bomb threat at KinderCare on Ash Street in west Columbia. Police evacuated the daycare and took the children and teachers to Broadway Christian Church.

Green is charged with making a terrorist threat and first-degree harassment, both felonies, and second-degree endangering the welfare of a child, a misdemeanor. In a call to the daycare, Green allegedly told an employee that he put a bomb in the building to kill a person whose name is redacted in the probable cause statement.

Parents and nearby business owners couldn't believe that somebody would target a daycare.

"For anybody that got the time to try to harm our kids, that's a bad, sad, pathetic thing," said Keith Hill.

Phil Bruner owns a business near the daycare, and he too was shocked that the daycare had to evacuate.

"A bomb threat at a daycare, [who, who] you know kids, it's just, what is this world coming to, it's crazy," said Bruner.

Green has a history of calling and harassing the daycare, the statement says. Court documents list his address as unknown.

Columbia police shut down two streets Tuesday afternoon and reopened them about an hour later. No bomb was found and no one was injured.

A judge denied Green bond. It wasn't clear late Wednesday morning if he was in custody.

Green did not respond to a voicemail message Wednesday.
