After leaving the country, Dale Co. man arrested on assault charges

DALE COUNTY, Ala. (WDHN) — A Dale County man has been arrested after police say he left the country after using a trailer hitch and gun in assaults.

On Tuesday, the Level Plains Police Department received a tip that Hector Berdecia, 41, was located in a trailer on I Street in Level Plains. Berdecia had previous arrest warrants issued in April, where he allegedly used a trailed hitch to scratch one victim and then pulled a gun out, according to police.

Police say the two victims in the assault were owners of one of the trailers Berdecia was a resident of.

After the assaults, Berdecia then left town for Mexico, returned to Level Plains, and then was arrested on Tuesday, according to Level Plains Police Chief John Summers. He was arrested on two counts of aggravated assault menacing with a gun, and one count of aggravated assault family strong arm.

“If there is a warrant out for your arrest, we will find you and not just sit on our hands and wait,” Chief Summers said in reference to open arrest warrants in Level Plains

He is currently in the Dale County Jail with no bond set.
