Police were at an apartment complex on Semple Farm Road where someone found the item.

HAMPTON, Va. — UPDATE: No explosive devices were found inside a Hampton apartment complex following an investigation and evacuation of the building Wednesday, according to police.

Shortly after 12:30 p.m., the Hampton Police Division said it was investigating a possible explosive device inside an apartment located in the 100 block of Semple Farm Road. The call came in two hours before and people were asked to avoid the area.

Around 5:30 p.m., the police division said the person who lived in the apartment, a military member, was turned over to the Naval Criminal Investigative Service for further investigation. Residents were cleared to go back to their homes.

Police had evacuated buildings 124 and 126 of the Briton Trace apartment complex. Nearby schools were contacted to notify the parents of students who live in the complex about evacuations. Arrangements were made for the students affected.
