Police: No explosive device on Semple Farm Rd in Hampton

HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) — Police said there is no threat after a “possible explosive device” was found on Semple Farm Road in Hampton Wednesday afternoon.

The item was determined not to be an explosive device, police said in an update around 5:30 p.m.

According to a tweet from Hampton Police around 12:35 p.m. Wednesday, the possible explosive device was located in an apartment in the 100 block of Semple Farm Road.

Officials said the call for the incident came in around 10:31 a.m.

Buildings 124 and 126 of the Falon Creek apartment complex had been evacuated, police said in a news release around 4 p.m. Schools in the area surrounding the scene were contacted so they could notify parents of children who live in the complex about the evacuations. Police said arrangements were made for students affected by the evacuation.

A photo from police showed police tape surrounding the parking lot of what appears to be an apartment complex. A police vehicle and a Hampton Fire and Rescue fire truck could be seen in the photo.

Regional bomb squads responded to assist in the investigation.
