Florida Highway Patrol troopers arrest a man on I-75 near Micanopy, and they charge him with human smuggling. Troopers arrested 29-year-old David Ramirez Ayuso around 11:30 AM Tuesday, according to an arrest report.
Troopers wrote they stopped his car on the highway for a window tint infraction. When the trooper pulled Ramirez-Ayuso over, he said he saw two other passengers in the car, according to the arrest report.
The passengers told troopers they illegally crossed the border from Mexico into the U.S. CBS4 is working to figure out what happened to the passengers. They are not listed as inmates in the Alachua County jail and there are no court records for them.
FHP says Ramirez-Ayuso told the trooper they were on the way from Chicago to Ocala looking for work. According to FHP, Ramirez-Aysuo told troopers he came to America from Mexico two-years ago on-foot.
An Alachua County jail employee says ICE requested a detainer for Ramirez-Ayuso. According to the arrest report, Ayuso told troopers his brother-in-law asked him to take the two passengers from Chicago to Ocala.
"Ayuso has ties to Mexico and is involved with multiple other people who smuggle illegal aliens into the United states," the arrest report says.
The report does not say how FHP knows that information. CBS4 has asked Highway Patrol if this was a random traffic stop, or they were specifically looking for Mr. Ramirez-Ayuso.
Last week Alachua County deputies arrested three Mexican citizens, after stopping them for a window tint violation. Deputies recovered heroin and guns from the stop, which also resulted in ICE requesting a detainer.
