Argus Leader building in Sioux Falls sold to local businessman

The Argus Leader closed on the sale of its downtown building Wednesday morning.

Ron Rensberger, a local businessman who owns various properties around Sioux Falls, plans a multi-use building at the corner of 10th Street and Minnesota Avenue.

“It is exciting to be part of re-envisioning the future use of a building within the heart of a growing city,” Rensberger said.

As part of the process, the Argus Leader will be looking for new space in Sioux Falls for the newsroom, advertising and distribution departments to set up shop.

"It's important to differentiate between the building sale and our continued commitment to local journalism," Argus Leader news director Cory Myers said about the upcoming move. "The Argus Leader as an institution isn't going anywhere. We've been part of this community for 140 years and counting. As a publisher of news and as a business partner, we'll be as strong as ever; just in a new physical space."

The sale comes six months after the Argus Leader ceased printing the daily newspaper in Sioux Falls. Production of the paper, along with other Gannett-owned properties in South Dakota, was moved to Des Moines.
