The Brashear Elementary School was honored as a Lighthouse School.
The school received the highly sought-after certification for its high standard in its learning environment.
Over the past few years, school leaders have seen growth in student confidence, social etiquette and staff modeling interpersonal effectiveness.
There has also been an increase in the overall family environment at the school.
"It's been an eight-year project that we've been working on and to finally get that status of a Lighthouse, like (Truman State University) President (Sue) Thomas talked about before there's under 600 Lighthouse schools across the world and now we are one of them here in northeast Missouri," said Brashear K-12 Principal Christy Grissom. "When you come into our school, you can see kids being leaders. We believe that every student has genius and it's our job to figure out what that is and so this is a really big day for us."
The school has also risen from the 34th percentile to the 54th percentile between 2015 to 2019 in its performance during statewide academic testing.
