A suspicious package shut down part of Highway 258 in Jacksonville for hours.
The package was delivered to Furniture 4 Less and had "BOOM" written on it in big red letters.
It was detonated by the NC SBI Bomb Squad.
Highway 258 was shut down for nearly four hours as the bomb squad investigated the suspicious package left at Furniture 4 Less.
The owner of Furniture 4 Less said the package was delivered to his store's doorstep just after 9:30 a.m.
Onslow County Sheriff Hans Miller said once his office saw the markings on the package, he called in the Hazardous Devices Unit from the SBI to investigate.
"Oh, it’s just devastating for my employees and their families. We have four employees and two girls work on commission. We sell a lot of furniture, they make a lot of money. When you take a day like this, they don’t get to sell anything and it takes from their kids, it’s horrible," Furniture 4 Less owner Adam Resnick said.
Sheriff Miller said they are investigating leads on who would have left this package at the business and their motive.
Miller said the SBI determined the package was not dangerous and as for what was inside, Miller said he didn’t want to reveal that at this time because that is a part of the ongoing investigation.
