Brandon Nimmo tried to beat out an infield grounder in Tuesday night’s loss to the Cardinals, but he couldn’t get the speed he normally has on the basepaths.

He quickly realized that the ball he had fouled off his knee just before was already affecting his ability to run, and with that, he was out of the game.

“I’m alright, just when I hit that ball off my knee, it kind of got the quad,” Nimmo said. “When I went to run and beat that out, it just wouldn’t fire. Tried to get there the best way I could and give it everything I had.”

Nimmo received X-rays after he was removed from the game, which came back negative, and was announced as day-to-day with a quad contusion. Still, he hopes to be in the lineup on Wednesday, as do the Mets, as Nimmo has been arguably the team’s most valuable player so far this season.

“It feels alright now, just got a lump on it,” Nimmo said. “We’ll take it day-to-day and see how it is in the morning.”
