Kent church to celebrate racial justice, dedicate Portage NAACP office

The Kent United Church of Christ will host a Celebration of Racial Justice on Sunday, and will dedicate the Portage County NAACP office housed at the church.

The Rev. Velda Love, minister for racial justice at the United Church of Christ, will minister at the Kent United Church of Christ's Celebration of Racial Justice on Sunday.

The Rev. Dr. Velda Love, minister for racial justice at the United Church of Christ, and the Rev. Michael Howard, minister of Faith in Action at the UCC's Living Water Association, will minister during the church's 10 a.m. service. A dedication of the NAACP office will follow at 11 a.m.

After the dedication ceremony, a benefit lunch will take place, featuring barbecue pulled pork and chicken from Neil Dukes' Pit Stop Pub. All proceeds will benefit the King Kennedy Community Center in Ravenna.

The NAACP office opened late last year. The space was to be dedicated in January, but the event was postponed because of illness.

The church is located at 1400 E. Main St., in Kent.
