Dr. George and Melissa Herkneky, along with their staff at Hertneky Vision Source, held their 12th annual Sight from the Heart event on Friday, May 6 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. with their last appointment time slotted for 3:15 p.m. to make sure each customer received the amount of time necessary to address his or her vision problems.

Sight from the Heart Day started in 2009 as a way for Hertneky Vision Source to give back to the Morgan County community. It has occurred every year since then, with the exception of 2020 due to the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. Known in the past to draw people to the line as early as the day before the event, Melissa recalled 2021 being an unusually small year with only eight people showing up.

Though there was still a line on the morning of May 6, 2022, it was not as congested as in past years. Herkneky Vision Source advertised that the first 25 people would be guaranteed appointment spots, with the exception of customers from the previous three years.

However, as the world continues to reopen, so do events like this one. This year, 22 people in total were able to be helped by getting eye examinations and or visual aids, like glasses.

Those who were fitted for glasses will be able to pick them up from 212 Cameron St. in Brush on Friday, May 27, just three short weeks after the initial appointments. Hertneky Vision Source plans to continue holding this annual event every spring.
