Gov. Charlie Baker will return to in-person events on Wednesday afternoon, after canceling two public appearances Tuesday over an undisclosed illness.

Baker is slated to unveil a supplemental budget proposal at 1:45 p.m. in Salem alongside Administration and Finance Secretary Michael Heffernan, Energy and Environmental Affairs Secretary Beth Card and Salem Mayor Kim Driscoll. Baker’s office announced his public schedule Wednesday morning, though his calendar is usually announced the evening prior.

“Governor Baker is feeling better, has tested negative for COVID-19 this morning and is resuming his regular schedule,” Terry MacCormack, a spokesman for Baker, said in a statement to MassLive Wednesday morning.

Baker’s office abruptly canceled two public appearances on Tuesday. MacCormack said the governor was “not feeling well” but had tested negative for COVID.

The governor had been expected to attend a ribbon-cutting ceremony at Vertex’s Jeffrey Leiden Center in the Seaport. Lt. Gov. Karyn Polito still went to the event and tweeted photos from the crowded indoor venue.

Later on Tuesday, Baker was slated to attend the Greater Boston Chamber of Commerce Annual Meeting and be recognized as a 2022 “Distinguished Bostonian.” First Lady Lauren Baker ended up accepting the award on the governor’s behalf, according to James Rooney, the president and CEO of the chamber.
