It’s an age old debate. Are today’s athletes better than the legends of the past?
During the latest edition of Wednesday with Whaley, former Buffalo Bills General Manager Doug Whaley said that Pro Football Hall of Famer Steelers outside linebacker “Jack Ham would be a special teams backup” in today’s NFL.
Whaley said it’s just a different game today. “Show me a linebacker that weighs 215 pounds that plays in the NFL today,” said Whaley.
Fan Morning Show hosts Colin Dunlap and Chris Mack were shocked by Whaley’s comments.
“That’s incredible,” said Colin Dunlap. “All of Johnstown right now is in their car driving here to kick your ass.”
Mack said he believes Ham would at the least be a strong safety in today’s NFL.
While Colin and Chris didn’t agree with Whaley’s comment, former NFL tight end and Pitt star Dorin Dickerson agreed.
But Whaley reiterated that it’s nothing against Ham personally, saying athletes today are just bigger.
Ham is a four-time Super Bowl Champion, six-time First team All Pro, eigth-time Pro Bowler, is a member of the NFL’s 100th Anniversary All-Time Team and is a member of the Pittsburgh Steelers Hall of Honor.
In 12 seasons, Ham had 21 fumble recoveries and 32 interceptions and was an integral part of the legendary Steel Curtain defense.
