CHARLOTTE (QUEEN CITY NEWS) – Police discussed tactical medical training during a briefing on Wednesday.
The department began training and certifying officers in 2017. which incentivizes staff with a 5% raise for course completion. The training is also offered to students, so far of which 375 have completed.
Tac-Med training has been applied at least 375 times since 2020. One of those incidents occurred in September of last year when a suspect attempted to run a responding officer over with a vehicle.
The officer perceived a deadly threat and shot the suspect, who then tried to flee on foot, but was eventually caught. Tact-Med officers were immediately able to provide crucial attention to the woman, who had been shot in the chest.
