Penn State news, notes, and updates for Wednesday feature good news for a Lions team. One outlet is predicting where college football’s most famous pregame show, ESPN’s ‘College GameDay’, will visit this year. And, transfer portal windows could be on the horizon.

Let’s dive into the top tweets and headlines to know about Penn State and college athletics on May 18.

Penn State tweets of the day

We start with a team that is making its newsstand debut: The Penn State baseball squad.

Head coach Rob Cooper’s Diamond Lions stunned Pitt with a 14-run rally in the ninth inning to beat the Panthers 19-6 at PNC Park. Josh Spiegel and Kyle Hannon hit three-run homers while Tayven Kelley knocked in three with a triple to spur the comeback.

Penn State baseball is now 25-24 on the year with an 11-10 Big Ten mark. It concludes the regular season with a Thursday-Saturday series with Illinois at home this weekend.

In other news, the folks over at FootballScoop ran their annual prediction as to where ESPN’s ‘College GameDay’ will end up each week during the 2022 college football season. Most years, Penn State is listed as a favorite to host an episode during one week or another. However, that’s not so this year.

Still, it won’t be a great shock to see the cast and crew show up for the Lions’ meeting with Ohio State in late October. After all, there’s a reason that it has aired outside the stadium of this particular matchup a show record 11 times.

Finally, at the Big Ten meetings, outgoing Vice President for Intercollegiate Athletics Sandy Barbour told ESPN that she believes transfer portal windows are on the horizon. These are supported by the American Football Coaches Association as a means to organize when movement can happen. When they could be voted on and implemented, however, is unclear.
