ANTRIM COUNTY, Mich. (WPBN/WGTU) -- The Elk Rapids community is mourning the loss of Donald Glowicki, also known as "Coach".
Glowicki, 92, died at his Elk Rapids home May 11.
Don Glowicki started coaching at Elk Rapids High School in 1959 and remained their football coach until 1982.
Glowicki was Athletic Director at the high school from 1961 until 1991, while also teaching physical education and business, according to his obituary.
His importance to the community was marked by the dedication of Glowicki Field on October 6, 2006.
We think of someone who knew that success on the football field was so much more than the score, and that teamwork and giving your best effort was what was truly the most important.
We think of someone who was consistently brave in the face of fear and adversity, and who taught others to be brave in those circumstances by his quiet examples.
Visitation will take place Wednesday, July 6 from 3-5 p.m. at Sacred Heart Church in Elk Rapids.
A funeral mass will be held Thursday, July 7 at 11 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church, with a celebration of life following mass at Glowicki Field at Elk Rapids High School.
