Coronation Street star teases Phill Whittaker's mysterious secret

Coronation Street star Jennie McAlpine has teased Phill Whittaker's mysterious secret in upcoming episodes.

In episodes airing next week, Phill's secret will finally be exposed by none other than his partner Fiz Stape's daughter, Hope.

While talking to Digital Spy and other media, McAlpine shared some insight into what viewers can be expecting from the anticipated discovery, teasing that Phill will be getting his comeuppance, courtesy of Hope.

"First of all, there is a giant digger involved and Phill's car," she began. "A crane and digger. You don't piss my daughter off, we all know that. You don't mess with her. It's quite tame for Hope, really. She could have done worse!

"Joking aside, Fiz is really angry when she finds out what Phill is hiding. It's a pretty distressing thing that happens."

The soap star went onto discuss how Fiz will react to the secret, explaining that the "shine" of her seemingly perfect relationship has certainly been dimmed by this discovery.

"The shine is definitely off. Things were already difficult after the recent Speed Daal date. Reality hit when Phill's mates started talking about John Stape and the past," she continued.

"Once reality hits, the shine has definitely been knocked off. But she's like: 'Oh no, this was the answer for me'. She doesn't want to bring the kids up on her own. Phill is the answer… but is he?"

We asked the actress if Fiz's feelings for Phill are actually genuine or whether she was just trying to kid herself for the sake of her family.

"I think maybe, I don't know, it's complicated isn't it? I think she's putting her family first, her girls first," she replied. "He can provide, it's going to be a fresh start for her away from Weatherfield and even Tyrone has said: 'The girls will have a garden and they can walk to the park. Basically Phill can give you all these things that I can't, so just do it'.

"Also Phill has got no baggage - we think, let's see! No kids. I mean, there is an ex-wife but hopefully she's not crazy. He's stable. This is right, this is good. There's not many stable men in Weatherfield. Well, we thought he was stable..."

We know that amidst all of the drama, Phill decides to ask Fiz to marry him. Will she say yes? Will his secret be forgivable?

Coronation Street airs these scenes on Monday, May 23 and Wednesday, May 25 at 8pm on ITV and ITV Hub.
