SAGINAW, Mich. (WNEM) - Showers have been trying to get going all morning and are finally beginning to make some headway at this lunch hour. Showers will last through the majority of the remaining daytime, but will come to an end this upcoming overnight. We’re also still keeping an eye on the rain and storm chances for this upcoming Friday.

Afternoon

If you’re planning to spend long periods of time outdoors this afternoon, be sure to check in with the latest radar images here with our Interactive Radar! If you’re not experiencing the rain falling, you can expect mostly cloudy skies. This rain will especially be focused near the Tri-Cities and south, with our northern tier of counties missing out on the bulk of, if not all of, the remaining rainfall today. Expect and additional 0.1″ to 0.2″ of rain if you’re located in our southern communities.

Highs later this afternoon will stay mild, but nearly 10 degrees below average in the upper 50s. The wind will be from the southeast around 5 to 15 mph.

Tonight

Some stray sprinkles will remain possible for the evening, with the better chances the farther east you go, but through the overnight all rain will come to an end. The clouds will largely hang on, though, but a dry morning is expected on Thursday. Lows will fall into the upper 40s tonight, and even with our northern counties staying above 40, frost will not be a concern.

Extended Forecast

Thursday is dry with partly cloudy skies and occasional sunshine. Highs warm back into the 70s!

Friday will still be a day to watch for possible severe weather. We’re tapping into more heat, humidity, along with an approaching strong cold front. These will be the main ingredients needed to develop strong thunderstorms. As of now, a slight risk (2/5) is out for Friday afternoon and evening for scattered strong to severe storms. Damaging winds, hail, heavy rain, and lightning will be the main hazards. Stay tuned to this forecast as some fine tuning will be likely over the next 48 hours. One key point with this forecast is when the cold front moves through to actually take advantage of those ingredients. The latest trends have been slowing the arrival of the cold front, pushing it late into Friday evening. If this timing holds, the chance for severe weather will diminish greatly for our area, but some rain should still be expected.
