Early morning pursuit ends with arrest for multiple felonies, warrants

A Tennessee man is facing numerous felony charges following a pursuit early Wednesday morning in Hopkinsville.

An arrest citation for 37-year old Stephen Walls of Smyrna, Tennessee says Hopkinsville police were notified of a reckless driver on Clinic Drive shortly before midnight and were told that Walls’ pickup was on the curb nearly running over signs.

Walls was located asleep in the Walmart parking lot and police say he was sweating and appeared to be under the influence of a substance when he was awakened.

A computer check of his license showed he was wanted out of Tennessee on a warrant for his sixth DUI, leaving the scene of an accident, domestic assault and other charges.

When Walls was told to exit his pickup, he allegedly took off and nearly struck an officer with his vehicle.

He eventually turned southbound on Fort Campbell Boulevard, where the Christian County Sheriff’s Department took the lead on the pursuit just south of Novadell.

Police say Walls reached speeds of up to 111 mph and deputies eventually used a pit maneuver to bring the pursuit to an end near Mount Vernon Church Road and he allegedly continued to struggle with deputies taking him into custody.

A search of his vehicle and person allegedly revealed methamphetamine, marijuana, anabolic steroids, heroin, needles and other drug paraphernalia.

He’s charged locally with attempted first-degree assault of a police officer, fleeing or evading police, wanton endangerment, DUI—fourth offense or more, felony criminal mischief, resisting arrest, promoting contraband, tampering with evidence, trafficking in meth, heroin, marijuana, steroids and trafficking in a controlled substance.

Walls was also served with the Tennessee warrants for multiple felonies.
