W-SR Changes Course in Conference Search

The Waverly-Shell Rock School Board voted unanimously Monday night to rescind its recent vote to apply for the Mississippi Valley Conference. The board then voted unanimously to have boys and girls wrestling apply to join the MVC and all other sports join the WaMaC. Letters will be sent to both conferences. The board changed course because the coaches overwhelmingly support joining the WaMaC while wrestling desires to compete in the MVC.

Waverly-Shell Rock athletic director spoke with us Wednesday mornig about the idea of having a split conference membership.

Our entire interview with W-SR A.D. Greg Bodensteiner is available at the bottom of this story.

Below is the official press release from Waverly-Shell Rock:

On May 9 the Waverly-Shell Rock school board voted 4-1 to apply to the MVC. Since the board made that decision, other details have come to light and there was a realization that some of the data shared was not seen by all of the board members. As a result, the board decided it was best to revisit what the best option for application might be, and met on May 16. After that review, the board was unanimous in their decision to rescind their original motion. They then unanimously voted to apply to the WaMaC for all sports except wrestling, and to apply to the MVC for boys and girls wrestling.
