There are numerous new candidates to county races in Chelan and Douglas counties as Filing Week continues in the state.

Among the most notable is Chelan County Deputy Sheriff Mike Morrison, who is now running to unseat his own superior, Brian Burnett for sheriff.

Morrison is President of the Deputy Sheriff's Association Union, which has brought several unfair labor practice complaints against the Sheriff's Office.

He says a cultural divide has led to a negative work environment at the Sheriff's Office.

KPQ news partner i FIBER ONE reports that Morrison said he was asked by some colleagues, spouses of colleagues and members of the community to run for sheriff.

He and Burnett are both running as Republicans.

Morrison filed to run for Sheriff on Tuesday, while Sheriff Burnett filed to run for reelection Monday.

Burnett has raised $30,350.31 in campaign money, more than any other candidate at the county level in Chena County.

Morrison is currently the School Resource Officer (SRO) for Cascade School District in Leavenworth.

He began his career in 2006 with the Omak Police Department and has been employed by the Chelan County Sheriff's Office since 2014.

According to Morrison biography on the Cascade School District website, he is also an assistant track coach for Cascade High School's Track and Field Team.
