BACK IN TIME: 1912 - Man badly injured while blasting rock

May 15, 1972: Approximately 15 volunteer firemen fought a blaze in Yancey Second Addition shortly before midnight Saturday. The fire completely destroyed the house owned by B.K. Wallace. Sawdust, which was used for insulation in the wood structure, kept the fire alive after firemen left at 1 a.m. Two hours later, the fire crews were again summoned to the scene to extinguish the flare-up. Flames could be seen from town. No one was in the house when the fire started.
