Men's Basketball Signs Alex Horiuk for 2022-23

RIO GRANDE VALLEY – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Men's Basketball Head Coach Matt Figger announced on Tuesday the signing of 7-0 forward Alex Horiuk for the 2022-23 season.

Horiuk comes to UTRGV from College Prep Academy in Sacramento, Calif., where he averaged 13 points, 8 rebounds, 3 blocks and 3 assists per game in 2021-22.

Originally from Chernivtsi, Ukraine, Horiuk attended Jesuit High School in Carmichael, Calif., where as a junior in 2019-20, he averaged 4.5 points and 4.8 rebounds in 32 games. He was then part of a team that finished 16-0 as a senior in 2020-21.

"Alex is a legit 7-footer with a soft touch," Figger said. "He has a ton of upside. Alex knows how to catch the ball and score in the post. He has good athleticism and moves well. He has a world of potential."

Horiuk joins 6-8 forward Daylen Williams, 6-6 guard Derrius Ward, 6-7 forward Ahren Freeman, 6-11 forward John Shanu II, 6-3 guard Will Johnston, 6-5 guard Sherman Brashear, 6-7 guard/forward C.J.
