The Padres defeated the Phillies 3-0 on Tuesday night, as their first piggyback pitching effort went about as well as possible. Mike Clevinger pitched 5 shutout innings, and MacKenzie Gore followed that up with 3 scoreless innings of his own. Taylor Rogers closed things out in the 9th, as the Padres pitching staff controlled this game from the start. The Padres cobbled together 3 runs on 8 hits, which proved to be plenty. The Padres will hope for a similar piggybacking effort on Wednesday when Blake Snell makes his 2022 debut, likely followed by Nick Martinez out of the bullpen.
