Richard Abraham successfully defeated incumbent county commissioner Jeff Parker in Tuesday's Republican Primary for 2nd District Commissioner.

Abraham narrowly won with 52 percent of the vote.

The primary win ensures Abraham will be the next McCracken County 2nd District Commissioner as he will be unopposed in the general election, with no Democrat having filed to run.

When speaking about his victory on the Greg Dunker Show, Abraham gave credit to the accomplishments of his opponent.

"I want to give a shout out to Jeff Parker, who did a great job when he first took office," Abraham said. "The county was in dire straits and him and Eddie (Jones) and Bill (Bartleman) along with the judge (Craig Clymer) got together and figured it out how to get out of that mess. Props to him, he is a good guy and I would have wished him well in any other race."

Abraham said his motivation for running was to see projects that have been in the works for the last several years finally come to fruition.

"We still have dead spots in this city and county where first responders, they lose contact and you just can't have that.," Abraham said. "For me that is a top priority to get done."

Abraham also explained how he didn't have a lot of money to campaign on and relied on his name recognition and reputation to help secure the win.

Abraham said; "So what I prayed for was when people go in there and look at their ballot and see my name, what are you going to equate to that name?"
