SHELBY COUNTY, Tenn. — There's a need for someone to take charge in this boundary dispute.

The mayor of Arlington assured us this past weekend everything was going to be OK, but right now, he's the only one saying that.

Election Commission Chairman Mark Luttrell is a former Shelby County mayor and sheriff. He knows his way around the political game and admitted to me there's not much he can do.

I got word Tuesday of a letter from Shelby County Property Assessor Melvin Burgess' office addressed to four high-ranking state officials saying he doesn't care what they say. Not only is Lee Mills' home in Shelby County, but so are all the others in the Windsor Place subdivision.

In other words, y'all can talk about who votes where, but make no mistake, those hundreds of homeowners are Shelby County taxpayers, not Fayette County.

In the meantime, this is all going on with a county election coming up in August and the November general election. What are these homeowners supposed to do? Maybe now that it's about tax dollars instead of a voting issue, we'll get an answer.

If it's determined those folks are really Fayette County residents, they deserve one heck of a tax refund from Shelby County.
