LA VISTA, Neb—One year ago today, then-11-year-old Ryan Larsen disappeared sometime after leaving school.
That same day, surveillance cameras spotted Ryan near La Vista Keno and a resident at Southfield Apartments saw him. Then he was gone.
While there is still no sign of him, La Vista police said the case is still an active investigation.
"In the history of our department, we've never had a case with a missing kid that's gone this long," Chief Bob Lausten said.
Lausten said the likelihood that someone abducted Ryan is slight.
"I think if he was taken by somebody that he knows or he walked away and he got caught up somewhere, those are probably the two best angles right there," he said. "We haven't ruled anything out."
Even after all the time that's passed, law enforcement continue to search for Ryan, including at Walnut Creek Tuesday.
"With the new sonar and an underwater drone, we wanted to look again at walnut creek. The water's clearer, there's not as much muck left in the water, so the conditions are better to see what's in that lake."
Lausten said it's mind boggling that a kid could disappear for this long without anyone seeing him. That's why police think someone out there has information.
For now, Lausten said his department is waiting on getting data back from electronic search warrants from Google.
