Police: St. Albans man holds knife at employee’s throat, shoplifts

A Williston store employee trying to stop a shoplifter gets a knife held against their throat.

WILLISTON, Vt. (WCAX) - A St. Albans man faces charges after police say he threatened a Williston store employee with a knife.

It happened at Maple Tree Place development around 4:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Williston Police say John Martin, 23, stole a chainsaw from Home Depot and then $1,700 worth of clothing and camping gear from Dick’s Sporting Goods. Police say an employee tried to stop him and Martin held a knife to the employee’s throat. The employee wasn’t injured.

Responding officers arrested Martin. They say he had a warrant out for his arrest for a furlough violation.
