Amarr Knox, who helped lead the Bartlett High School Panthers to the brink of a state championship this year, has announced where he will play college basketball.

On The Doc Holliday Show Tuesday afternoon, May 17, Knox said he will attend Alabama State University.

Knox had committed to play for the University of Memphis when he was a junior, but withdrew his commitment to Memphis in October 2021.

Alabama State is a historically black college in Montgomery, Alabama, a Division 1 school that plays in the Southwestern Athletic Conference. Tony Madlock, a former assistant coach at the University of Memphis, is the new head coach at Alabama State.

Knox and point guard Jr Jacobs dominated many Bartlett games this season, pressuring offenses into turnovers and turning them into easy fast-break baskets at the other end.

Knox has a deft shooting touch. He can hit 3-pointers from well beyond the arc, can drive the basket and play above the rim, is a good free-throw shooter and gets his share of steals and rebounds.

Bartlett made it to the semifinal game for the Division 1 4A state championship and lost a heartbreaker to Dobyns-Bennett, which hit a last-second shot to win by one point in overtime, 70-69.
