After a year-long process, commissioners in Marshall County have accepted a bid to move forward with courthouse renovations.
"This is doing so much for the courthouse," Commissioner John Gruzinskas said.
In efforts to upgrade the courthouse with new HVAC, electric, and security systems, a bid from Safety Quality Performance was accepted.
"There is more and more high-tech equipment that has to be added for your function, so we want to make sure that the electrical system and the HVAC system is able to handle that," Gruzinskas said.
The project's price tag is more than $6.5 million.
But it wasn't a hard decision, as they had only received one bid.
"It's unfortunate that we only had one company actually submit a proposal, considering we actually had five or six companies attend the pre-bid meetings and understand what we wanted them to do," Gruzinskas said.
Given that the courthouse hasn't seen a major renovation in 50 years, they were ready to have SQP step in.
"It's definitely a big project, it's a high-dollar project will take upwards of a year to get done, 8 months or so,” said Richard Robertson from SQP.
An official start date has not been announced.
