Oldham County community finally getting long talked about Kroger
Years of waiting is finally over after state and local leaders broke ground on a long-awaited Kroger in an Oldham County community.
Gov. Andy Beshear was joined by Kroger representatives and county officials Wednesday for the groundbreaking in Buckner.
The Kroger is being built at Commerce Parkway and state Route 393. According to the grocery store company, it will cost $30 million.
The Kroger has been talked about since 2015 and stalled for a multitude of reasons.
Back when it was first announced, Louisville Business First reported that the store would be a Kroger Marketplace, which are larger than the typical Kroger store and also have expanded food and retail selections.
Kroger said the new site will have a fuel center and will create 300 new jobs. Meanwhile, Beshear said the impacts of the new store will be felt beyond that.
The Kroger is expected to be open by the fall of next year.
