Beamer, Elizabeth Lewis 4Elizabeth Lewis “Libby” Beamer of Christiansburg, Virginia passed away peacefully on May 13, 2022, surrounded by family in Richmond, Virginia. Born April 21, 1930, in Chilhowie, Virginia, she is preceded in death by her parents, John William Lewis and Lady Maupin Lewis, and her brothers, James Lewis and William Lewis. She is also preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, George L. Beamer Jr.

She is survived by four sons, George L. Beamer III (Yali); John L. Beamer of Christiansburg; James W. Beamer (Betsy) of Henrico, Virginia; and Richard B. Beamer (Amy) of Cincinnati, Ohio. She was a beloved Mamaw of George L. Beamer IV, James Beamer (Feiyu), Elisabeth Beamer, John Beamer (Kimberly), Rachel Harvey (Scott), Katelyn Beamer, Laura Beamer, Anna Beamer, Jessica Beamer, and Julie Beamer. She is also survived by three great-grandchildren, Ainsleigh and Mason Harvey and Elaina Beamer.

She was a proud graduate of Virginia Intermont College and Radford College. She was a long-time teacher in the Montgomery County Public School system, ending her career as an earth science teacher at Christiansburg Middle School.
Libby was an active member of Christiansburg Presbyterian Church and held many positions there through the years, including Deacon and Ruling Elder. She was very involved in Presbyterian Women at the local level and served the Presbyterian Women in the Presbytery as Moderator. She had a particular place in her heart for the Presbyterian Children’s Home of the Highlands in Wytheville and served on the Board of Directors there. She also served on the Boards of Directors of Sunnyside Presbyterian Home in Harrisonburg, Virginia, and the Montgomery County Regional Hospital.

Mrs. Beamer was also active in the Christiansburg Book Club for over 40 years, was a member of the Montgomery County Republican Committee, the Montgomery County Republican Women’s Club, and the Virginia Republican State Central Committee. She was appointed by former Governor George Allen to the Virginia Board on Aging.

The family will receive friends Friday, June 17, 2022, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Horne Funeral Home, 1300 North Franklin Street in Christiansburg.

A memorial service will be held at Christiansburg Presbyterian Church, Saturday, June 18, 2022, at 11:00 a.m., followed by a reception in the Fellowship Hall. Burial will be private.
