Special Olympic Torch Run passes through Aberdeen in advance of weekend games

Local athletes are headed to Spearfish this weekend for the Special Olympics Summer Games.

Representatives from the South Dakota Special Olympics and athletes walked down South Third Street in Aberdeen Tuesday morning, carrying the torch that will make its way to Spearfish for the games.

The Special Olympics Law Enforcement Torch Run is planned for 20 towns across the state before the games begin Thursday on the campus of Black Hills State University. Events include volleyball, soccer, swimming, powerlifting, race walking, and track and field.
