Five people are now displaced after an overnight fire in Independence, Iowa.
Emergency crews were called shortly after midnight Tuesday morning to the 200-block of 17th Avenue NE.
Smoke and fire was coming from one of the units of a duplex.
Two people were rescued by Independence Fire and Police. Three other residents were able to get out on their own.
Two residents were taken to the hospital out of precaution.
IFD says it had the fire knocked down and under control in 25 minutes and crews spent the next 4 hours performing salvage and overhaul in all 4 units.
The cause of fire is still currently under investigation at this time.
The fire displaced all 5 residents living in the duplex.
Crews were assisted by Jesup Fire, City of Independence Iowa, Police Department, Independence Light&Power Telecommunications, and Red Cross.
