TMZ was first to report the news of the split on Tuesday, May 17. According to the publication, Jen filed for separation last week in Southern California, citing "irreconcilable differences."

"Ryne and I are taking some time apart to focus on ourselves and our children. While we are very sad, we are hoping that we will heal and be even stronger as a family," Jen said in a statement to PEOPLE. "We ask for patience as we navigate this new chapter in our lives."

Jen and Ryne have three children together: twins Vera and Vince, 10, and Robert Valor, 9.

Prior to the news of their separation, Jen shared a series of photos of her, Ryne, and their kids on a family outing to Disneyland last week. "What a magical day in Disneyland with the family!" Jen wrote on Instagram on May 12. "Thank you @disneyland for the amazing tour and day filled with laughs, smiles, and pure magic!!!! Feeling like a little kid again!"

Jen opened up about the challenges in her marriage in Season 16 of RHOC. At one point, she even shared with her fellow OC Housewives that Ryne had briefly left their home after she confronted him about the issues in their relationship.

The RHOC Season 16 finale, which aired on April 13, revealed that Jen and Ryne had separated for more than a month after the season ended. However, they were "looking for a fresh start in a new house" after putting their current home on the market.

During Part 1 of the RHOC Season 16 reunion, it was unclear if Ryne would be joining Jen in their new home. "I mean, time will tell," Jen told Andy Cohen at the sit-down. "We'll see."

Jen later remarked in Part 2 of the reunion how watching her and Ryne on RHOC underscored how much they needed to repair their relationship. "It was interesting watching the show, because it was almost therapeutic to be like, s--t, we've got to change this," Jen said. "This is just way too far, and we're both very unhappy."

She then shared that Ryne actually "moved out for a little while," which helped. "It kind of reset," Jen said. "There was peace in the house. I was with the kids. It was actually really helpful."

Ultimately, Jen showed gratitude for "the positive encouragement" from the other women at the reunion, and she was optimistic about her future with her husband. "I feel hopeful," she said. "It's actually peace and some laughter where you're like, I want to be in this again."
