PULASKI COUNTY, Ga. (WGXA) -- A Middle Georgia veteran who was severely injured while serving in Afghanistan has received a custom Harley Davidson motorcycle.
Tony Mullis, of Hawkinsville, served in the US Marine Corps and was on active duty from 2008 to 2012.
While serving a second deployment in southern Afghanistan in April 2011, a bomb explosion critically injured Mullis and he lost both of his legs.
When he was injured, Cpl. Mullis was working to clear out abandoned compounds. He noticed wires that indicated an improvised bomb and started moving his team away when a footstep set off an IED. He was injured just a day after the birth of his first child.
Wounded Warriors Family Support presented Mullis with the custom 1993 FXR Harley Davidson during a Combat Hero Bike Build Presentation Monday night.
“Tony has not ridden a motorcycle since his injuries,” said Martin Duarte, Wounded Warriors Family Support’s program outreach coordinator. “This custom motorcycle with adaptive equipment will help enhance Tony’s quality of life and provide him with independence.”
Mullis is currently going to college and eventually wants to work as a game warden in Georgia. Currently, he works for an auto parts company in Hawkinsville and coaches his son's sports teams. He enjoys baseball, hunting, fishing, and spending time with his wife and their children and friends.
